Melissa Camacho
2014 BU Intern

Melissa D. Camacho is a junior at Barry University in Miami Shores, FL who is originally from New Jersey. She is a Criminology major with great intentions to go to Law school after obtaining her Bachelor’s in the spring of 2017. Melissa is bilingual and fluent in both English and Spanish. She is filled with cultural awareness and understands the diverse cultural environment of each individual. She is dedicated and a very hard working scholar with a positive mind set. Miss. Camacho has volunteered with Eradicating the School-to-Prison Pipeline (E-SToPP) Foundation since her freshman year in the fall of 2013. She loves being able to listen and encourage the kids at the Miami-Dade Regional Juvenile Detention Center during the weekly Positive Peer Leadership Mentoring sessions. They have taught her more than she can ever teach them. Her experience at JDC has been incredible and she has enjoyed every second of her internship. Not only has she had the pleasure to work with great people like Dr. Pane as well as Miguel who have guided her to her successful visits but she has gained a hands-on experience on how to handle difficult situations. Every child at the JDC has a different story to tell but during PPLM everyone becomes one as we work as a team to express ourselves.
